Korg SV2 88 stage vintage piano features 88 RH3 keys, EDS-X sound engine, 72 tones, 128 polyphony, 72 songs, 6 effects with 12AX7 valve amp. Korg SV-2-88 is the top choice of a stage piano for every keyboardist and pianist with an authentic acoustic piano playing experience, vintage looks, and high-quality customizable tones.
Stage piano has always been one of Korg’s successful categories because when they first launched the SV-1 stage vintage piano, every gigging keyboardist and pianist loves it. Now, the stage vintage piano is getting upgraded with the new Korg SV-2 with 88 keynotes.
In short, Korg SV-2 is the upgraded version of the SV-1, therefore, there are many upgrades to take notes in the new Korg SV-2 system. Let’s start with the sound engine, the SV-2 comes with the upgraded tone generation, the Enhanced Definition Synthesis X (EDS-X) while the previous model is using the EDS only.
What’s the difference between the EDS and EDS-X sound engines? The X in EDS-X stands for eXpanded, so you will get an expansion (upgrade) in every part of the system starting from an upgrade in Max Polyphony from 80 to 128 notes, expansion in Factory Tones from 36 to 72 tones, an improvement in the Effect Structures and adding some of the high-quality grand piano sounds from Germany, Italy, Japan, and Austria.
On to the playing experience, Korg SV-2 is still trusting the keynotes with the Real Weighted Hammer Action 3 (RH3) keyboard from the previous model because the players who have experienced playing it love the weighted touch on each note which has a similar feeling that you get when playing the acoustic piano and it can be customized up to eight curves.
In the effect department, Korg SV-2 implemented a set of studio-grade effects that can be easily customized to your selected tone. The first effect that is easily recognized is none other than the iconic Korg’s Valve Reactor which uses the 12AX7 vacuum tube for extra warmth or a punchy snarl type of tone. Then, you will also get to play with other high-quality effects such as 3-Band EQ, Pre FX, Amp models, Modulation FX, Reverb/Delay, and Limiter where all of these go through six phases of signal processing ensuring your combined effect and tone produce the best result.
One of the best things about a stage vintage piano is that you will have to do all of the “action” manually. This means, there’s no LCD or LED to guide you but you will get to play around with Knobs, Switches, and Buttons just like the old day of a vintage machine but with a touch of modern technology.
