Billy Corgan chose the handcrafted LJ16 A.R.E. as the foundation for his signature model. A few sonic changes were made during design at Mr. Corgan’s request — a slight emphasis on the upper-mid harmonic frequencies creating a better listening experience for the audience and a bit more detailing in the low-mid range to help round out the balance to complement his playing style. Other personalized Billy touches are brass bridge pins, TUSQ nut and saddle, GOTOH open-gear tuners and a unique “Zero” head stock logo.
During The Smashing Pumpkins’ recent acoustic tours, Billy noticed that adding brass bridge pins to his Yamaha L-Series acoustics added upper-mid harmonics, which are frequencies that a live audience can feel and hear for a better experience. The low-mids also become more balanced. Adding this upgrade was essential to him for his signature acoustic.
Zero Logo on the Headstock
The zero logo has stayed with Billy Corgan over the years and he wanted it added to the headstock of his guitar as a personal touch for himself and fans.
High Comfortable Traditional Neck Profile
A reevaluation of string spacing, string height, fingerboard binding, and neck taper led to a new neck shape that better fits today’s traditional players. The new design offers stable grip and smooth playability over the full length of the neck.
SRT Zero Impact Passive Pickups
The SRT Zero Impact Passive Pickup system is a newly developed passive type pickup configuration designed to minimize the pickup’s impact on the tone and traditional appearance of the instrument. The system utilizes individual piezoelectric elements for each string to faithfully reproduce the dynamic sound of the L Series and give the instrument outstanding presence when playing in a band.*L56,36,26 don’t have this Pickup.
A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement)
A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) is an original wood reforming technology developed by Yamaha.
Through precise control of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular properties of the wood can be manipulated into a more acoustically ideal condition, similar to the molecular characteristics of woods in instruments that have been played for years.
New Designed Bracing Pattern
A modified non-scalloped bracing design retains the L series’ characteristic bright tone while enhancing low-end tone.
New 5-ply neck designs are constructed of rosewood and mahogany plies. The design integrates the neck, head, and body into a single unit creating a powerful, rich sound. This approach also creates a strong, stable neck that resists twisting and warping.
The LJ body shape is designed to provide guitarists with a comfortable fit when seated. While volume output is a little less than the LL, the LJ offers a wide dynamic range, a low-end with strong presence, and a crisp tone that accommodates a wide range of playing styles from lead to strumming.
